Redwood National Park

Redwood National Park , home to the tallest trees in the world. Only 100 miles of California and Oregon coastline provide the damp ecosystem these beasts need to thrive, and they most certainly thrive. Some grow as tall as a 34 story building and the oldest of them is over 2000 yrs old. But when they fall, which they have a habit of doing because of their shallow root system, decaying redwoods provide essential nutrients to the otherwise nutrient depleted soil and often sprout new redwood saplings straight from their fallen trunks. Fun fact not in the brochures: the wookie fight in star wars was shot in the same grove this photo was taken. Dave, an older fella who works the lobby desk at Curley's Redwood Inn, told me so, so you know that fact's legit.
